The Jazz Station has a 70-seat capacity and operates under the guidance of the Willamette Jazz Society, a non-profit organization based in downtown Eugene, Oregon. This community-run venue hosts jazz concerts and educational programs, fostering a sense of community among musicians, students, and local residents. With its professional lighting and sound system, and a baby grand piano, the venue provides an intimate setting for musical performances.
A beer and wine bar stocked with local favorites adds to the ambiance, making it an ideal spot for people to gather and enjoy live music. The Willamette Jazz Society, which founded the venue, has established a strong relationship with the University of Oregon and Lane Community College Schools of Music, promoting collaboration and musical growth among students.
As the only venue of its kind in Oregon outside of Portland, it provides a rare opportunity for students from different schools to come together and perform. This collaborative environment helps to foster a vibrant local jazz scene, which is the society's primary goal.
Community outreach programs, such as the First Monday Night Big Band, One Set Wednesday, and The Jazz Station Jam, give students and community members a chance to develop their musical skills and perform in front of a supportive audience. The venue, situated at 124 West Broadway, serves as a hub for these activities.
With over 300 members providing core support through monthly memberships, and relying on donations and gifts to operate, the venue survives due to the efforts of its members and volunteers, making it a valuable resource in the local arts scene.
